The 9th Circle of [Political] Hell

Dante has it right. The final, deepest level of hell is reserved for traitors, betrayers and oath-breakers (the most famous inmate, Judas Iscariot).

Now enter Trump.

What happened this morning in Helsinki is a national embarrassment on so many levels.

I ranted on Twitter this morning that #45 flipped a big middle finger to the USA. His remarks in Helsinki show his weakness and naiveté to a dyed-in-the wool KGB operative, w/a history of throwing poisoned darts and using kompromat to dig dirt on political foes he wishes to bury 6-feet under. Trumps rejection of Russian interference is naive, dangerous, stupid and embarrassing. #PutinsPuppet.

This, combined with his arse kissing comments about Putin “He is extremely strong and powerful.”

I may have just gagged a bit.

McCain had scathing comments as well. He quipped “ Trump and Putin seemed to be speaking from the same script as the president made a conscious choice to defend a tyrant against the fair questions of a free press, and to grant Putin an uncontested platform to spew propaganda and lies to the world.” He called Trumps appearance “tragic” and “one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory.

Even, pro-Trump GOP senators called Helsinki press conference “tragic,” “bizarre,” “flat-out wrong,” “shameful” and a “missed opportunity” to hold Russia to account. Ben Sasse (R) added that “when the President plays moral equivalence games, he gives Putin a propaganda win he desperately needs.”

Trumps performance? “Nothing short of treasonous.”

Anyone else breaking out into hives today?

I long for good news. For happy things to fill my inbox, but no. More negativity. More stupidity. More piles of shit in the world.

As a ordinary-human-living through Trumpian times, how do y’all find the will to stay positive? And not punch holes in walls? I am definitely not a person who can shrug it off and sigh “its just politics.” Nor am I capable of focusing on surface things, like shopping or fluffy fiction. I just dwell there. In that evil place.

Oddly, I was the peacekeeper growing up. I looked for solutions. I facilitated arguments [or I’d simply remove myself from the situation and hide in the barn with my horses].

It seems adulthood has given birth to my own version of Ms. Hyde. At least in response to political stupidity.

Yep, she’s ugly, but sometimes necessary.

Abandon all hope, ye who enter here….
